Millard South assistant principal dies following shooting

By Katie Knapp Schubert

Omaha, NE – Millard South High School Assistant Principal Vicki Kaspar died Wednesday evening after she and principal Curtis Case were shot by a student.

Omaha Police responded to the school at 149th and Q streets just before one PM Wednesday for a report of a shooting in the office. The suspect fled the scene and was found dead a short time later in a car on 147th Street.

Omaha Police Chief Alex Hayes identified the shooter as 17-year-old Robert Butler Junior, a senior at Millard South High School and the son of Omaha Police detective Robert Butler.

Hayes says at this time Butler Jr.'s motive isn't known. Millard South High School was on lockdown for several hours Wednesday afternoon and families were instructed to pick up their children at a nearby church.

Kaspar was 58 years old.
