Mills County, Iowa issues mandatory evacuation order

By Katie Knapp Schubert and Cheril Lee

Omaha, NE – A mandatory evacuation order is in place for another western Iowa county.

Mills County Emergency Management says all residents living west of I-29 and south of Gaston Avenue to the Fremont County line must evacuate. The order was issued because roads in that area are becoming impassable due to rising ground water.

Mills County emergency management spokeswoman Sheri Bowen says residents in the evacuation area must leave their homes by 4pm Friday. Utilities will be shut off at that time to homes in the evacuation area. An emergency Red Cross evacuation shelter is set up at East Mills High School in Malvern.

Mills County residents who have questions about the evacuation order or flooding should call 211 or log on to www.millscoia.us.
