Council Bluffs, IA – A 14-year-old Council Bluffs girl has been found safe in southern Illinois.
A news release from the Pottawattamie County Sheriff's Department says Janakaye Lee and 19-year-old Steven Hecker were located yesterday (Sun) at a motel in Sparta, Illinois. Hecker and Lee were in good physical condition. Lee was taken to a juvenile detention facility and Hecker was booked at the Randolph County, Illinois jail. He's awaiting extradition to Pottawattamie County.
Lee's disappearance February 22nd triggered an Amber Alert. It was later re-classified as an active missing persons case. Investigators believe Lee went with Hecker willingly. The two were spotted last week in Sorento, Illinois, about 50 miles northeast of Saint Louis.
