Council Bluffs, IA – A missing 14-year-old Council Bluffs girl was spotted Monday night in south central Illinois.
Pottawattamie County Sheriff Jeff Danker says Janakaye Lee and 19-year-old Steven Hecker were spotted late Monday in Sorento, Illinois, about 50 miles northeast of St. Louis. An Amber Alert was issued Monday afternoon following Lee's disappearance. It named 19-year-old Steven Hecker of Council Bluffs as the suspect. Sheriff Danker says Hecker has family in south central Illinois.
Authorities re-classified the case as an active missing persons investigation after evidence led them to believe Lee went with Hecker willingly. Danker says he doesn't know if Lee and Hecker are still in Sorento.
Three warrants were issued last week in Pottawattamie County against Hecker concerning his relationship with Lee.
