Monk At 90! - Fazioli Piano Marathon

Program to air Thursday at 9:00PM on KIOS.

Omaha, Nebraska – Thelonious Monk's music will be celebrated Thursday night on a three-hour special broadcast entitled Monk At 90! - Fazioli Piano Marathon.

Host Geri Allen, herself one of the finest pianists in jazz today, hosts the program.

Monk at 90! was recorded earlier this year on the occasion of Monk's birthday, in New York. It presents highlights of a multi-hour marathon featuring several of the greatest pianists from the worlds of classical and jazz music paying tribute to Thelonious Monk.

Performers include Aaron Goldberg, Rachel Z, Helio Alves, Deidre Rodman, Frank Kimbrough, Luis Perdomo, Juan Jose Chuquisengo, Aaron Diehl, Randy Weston, Martha Marchena, Fred Hersch, Cedar Walton, Joel Fan, Geri Allen and Dan Tepfer.

Thelonious Monk is regarded as one of the most prolific innovators of the jazz idiom and one of the founders of bebop. Monk is considered one of the most important (and eccentric) jazz composers of the century, composing lines which stand as essentials of modern jazz.
