More metro residents take advantage of B-cycle program

The Heartland B-cycle program had a record number of riders during the 2015 College World Series.

There were 189 bike trips taken on Saturday, June 13th alone.  Ben Turner, Heartland B-cycle Program Director, says there are three stations within two blocks of the stadium.

Turner says there are always transportation challenges during the College World Series.  But he says with 31 stations located throughout the metro area, B-cycle is a great option for people.

Turner says B-cycle’s partnership with Midtown Crossing is important to encouraging a park-once culture in the metro.

"We’ve seen our ridership go up dramatically from month to month this year as well as yearly from previous years.  Some of it is the addition of many more stations into the system.  But even our existing stations have seen stronger ridership last year to this year.”

Turner says this is B-cycle’s fifth season of operation and this is the third year they’ve had stations at or near the downtown area.

Through the program, anyone may rent one of 152 bikes from a B-cycle station in Omaha or Council Bluffs and then return it to any of the stations.  For a complete list of bike rental locations, the website is heartland.bcycle.com.
