More vaccines against swine flu headed to Douglas County

By Katie Knapp Schubert

Omaha, NE – The Douglas County Health Department says more than two thousand additional doses of vaccine against swine flu are on their way.

Douglas County has received 14,500 doses of the vaccine so far, mostly in nasal spray form. 500 providers are getting the vaccine to patients. Health Department officials are dividing up smaller shipments of the vaccine and delivering them to providers.

Health Department Resource Specialist Phil Rooney says the fact that some providers are running low on vaccine means the people who need it are getting it. He says vaccines are being delivered to pediatricians, OBGYNs, and family practice doctors.

Rooney says people should be patient since additional doses are on the way to Douglas County. There is a delay in getting the vaccine, but not a shortage. The Health Department could start its vaccination clinics next month. Rooney says they need to have 10,000 doses available in order to host a clinic.
