Murdock man to run for Nebraska Legislature

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — A Methodist minister from Murdock has announced plans to run for the Nebraska Legislature.

Mel Luetchens kicked off his campaign Thursday for the legislative seat now held by state Sen. Bill Kintner, of Papillion.

Luetchens works part-time as an assistant to the president for church relations at Nebraska Wesleyan University. He previously worked as director for United Ministries in Higher Education and as campus pastor at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Luetchens received a bachelor's degree in humanities from Westmar College in LeMars, Iowa, and master's degrees from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and the Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston, Ill. He earned a Ph.D. from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
