National Weather Service confirms a tornado hit parts of Omaha

Omaha, NE – The National Weather Service confirms that a tornado hit Omaha early Sunday morning.

The tornado touched down at 156th and Giles Streets at 2:17 AM, according to the NWS Survey of the damage area. From there, it traveled nearly six miles, with the heaviest damaged concentrated in the area of 137th and Y streets. Some businesses in the southwest Omaha area also sustained damage. The National Weather Service says the tornado was an EF2 with wind speeds as high as 135 miles per hour. The storm lifted in the area of 114th and Shirley Streets. Three injuries are reported.
