Nebraska: 29th Best Business Tax Climate

Nebraska has the 29th best tax climate in the U-S, according to the 2015 State Business Tax Climate Index.

The report is released annually by the Tax Foundation.  Scott Drenkard, Economist for the Tax Foundation, says the research looks at the entirety of the business tax code that’s being complied with in the states.

He says the report is a comprehensive ranking of state tax structures. Drenkard says the Tax Foundation is not simply concerned with how much is being collected.

"Talking about how states choose to structure their taxes.  Are they double taxing some income that they shouldn’t?  Are they making sure that there are correct provisions for things like net operating loss carry forwards and carry backs.  Are their rates competitive compared to the rest of the states?  These are all questions we answer in the report which has more than 100 variables.  And it provides a road map for reform of tax codes.”

The report is sent to every state legislator and governor in the country so they can understand where their state stands compared to the rest of the country.

Drenkard says states in the Top 10 go without some of the major taxes.  Wyoming is #1 and they do not have an individual or corporate tax.
