Nebraska and Iowa leaders planning an agriculture hearing in Omaha

By Katie Knapp

Omaha, NE – Nebraska Senator Ben Nelson and Iowa Senator Tom Harkin plan to hold an agriculture hearing next month in Omaha.

During his weekly conference call Wednesday with reporters, Senator Nelson announced the agriculture hearing, set for August 18 in Omaha. Harkin is chairman of the Senate Agriculture Committee.

Nelson says the hearing will address food, feed, and fuel production issues, as well as the future of those issues. Nebraska's junior U.S. Senator says ethanol production and its importance to the rural economy will also be a topic of the hearing.

Also Wednesday, Senator Nelson credited pressure on speculators for bringing down oil and gas prices.
