Creighton University’s new president is a Nebraska native who’ll return home in July.

Reverend Daniel Hendrickson was introduced Monday as Creighton’s new leader. Hendrickson graduated from Mount Michael Benedictine High School in Elkhorn, and is a Fremont native. He currently is associate provost for academic initiatives at Marquette University.

Creighton president Father Timothy Lannon says Hendrickson is the right person to lead the school. Lannon says he's known Hendrickson since 1994, when Hendrickson applied to the Society of Jesus.

"I was one of the examiners listening to people talk about their desire to become a Jesuit. And I marveled at this man’s gifts and abilities, in fact I thought what a tremendous young man and how blessed we are in the church and in the Society of Jesus to have a man like Father Hendrickson to be with us in the Society of Jesus."

A Creighton committee spent just over nine months on the search for a new president.

Father Lannon is stepping down next month as Creighton’s president due to health issues. Father Hendrickson will succeed interim President J. Chris Bradberry.
