Nebraska Nepalese Society sending volunteers to help following earthquake

The Nebraska Nepalese Society is sending volunteers to Nepal following a deadly earthquake there last weekend.

Saturday’s 7.8 magnitude earthquake killed more than 5,000 people. The Nebraska Nepalese Society is raising funds to help the victims of the earthquake.

Supriya Giri, a member of the Nebraska Nepalese Society, says her own family was affected by the earthquake. Giri says they’re sending volunteers with medical backgrounds to Nepal. One left Wednesday. Two more are scheduled to leave Thursday, and are being joined by volunteers from Minnesota and Texas.

The Nebraska Nepalese Society has set up an Earthquake Relief Fund to help the victims. More information is available at www.nnsociety.org.

Creighton University is holding an interfaith prayer vigil Thursday evening as a show of support for Nepal. The vigil starts at 8 p.m. at St. John’s Church.
