Nebraska-Omaha hockey team to christen arena ranked No. 1

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — The Nebraska-Omaha hockey team is ranked No. 1 in one of the major polls for the first time in the program's 18-year history.

This week's USA Today/USA Hockey magazine coaches' poll has the Mavericks (4-0) at the top. They edged out No. 2 North Dakota by 10 points.

The Mavericks are No. 2 in the U.S. College Hockey Online poll, trailing North Dakota by four points.

Omaha plays Air Force on Friday and Saturday nights during the grand opening of 7,900-seat Baxter Arena.
