Nebraska primary to winnow field in down-ticket races

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Nebraska voters are picking a Republican nominee for an Omaha congressional district and narrowing the field in more than a dozen legislative races in the state's primary election.

The polls will be open Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Don Bacon and Chip Maxwell are running for the GOP nomination in the Omaha-based 2nd District. The winner will face first-term Democratic U.S. Rep. Brad Ashford in the November general election.

Voters will also pick candidates in 13 legislative races with more than two contenders. The top two vote-getters in each race will advance to the general election. The Legislature is officially nonpartisan, but Republicans hold 36 of the 49 seats and both parties hope to pick up more.
