The Nebraska Tobacco Quitline Provides Help for Tobacco Users

Last week was the American Cancer Society’s Great American Smokeout.  It’s a day that encourages tobacco users to give up the habit.

Amanda Mortensen, Tobacco Free Nebraska Program Manager for DHHS, says even if you didn’t quit last week, it’s never too late.

She says you can call the Nebraska Tobacco Quitline at 800-QUIT-NOW.

Mortensen says when you call, you can talk to a professional cessation coach about quitting, what your options are and how to make a plan.

"The biggest thing is to do it.  It’s tough to quit and sometimes it takes a couple times to do that.  But you have to continue to make that plan and make that effort to quit.  And not to get discouraged even if you have a relapse with it.  But to make another attempt at it.”

Mortensen says other tips to help quit include drinking lots of water and 100% juices, limiting or avoiding alcohol and staying active.
