Neighborhood cleanup program begins next Saturday

By Katie Knapp Schubert

Omaha, NE – Omaha's Neighborhood Clean-Ups begin next Saturday.

Six clean-up days are being offered this year: April 9th, 16th, and 30th, and May 7th, 14th, and 21st. Appliances, tires, automotive batteries, chairs, and couches are among the items that are accepted. Cindy Smilley, Executive Director of Keep Omaha Beautiful, says bricks, any liquids of any type, railroad ties, rocks, yard waste, and cement can't be collected.

Smilley says some items collected at the clean-up days are recycled or put in neighborhood yard sales. Others are compacted and taken to landfills.

You can find out when your neighborhood's clean-up day will be by calling 402-444-4636. The Neighborhood Clean-Up program began in 1985.
