IN the Neighborhood Conference returns October 1st at Metro

The purpose of the IN the Neighborhood Conference is to strengthen the quality of life in the Iowa and Nebraska metro areas by strengthening neighborhoods.

The conference takes place Saturday, October 1st at Metro Community College’s South Campus.

Julie Smith, Program Manager for ONE Omaha, says there will be six different breakout sessions where individuals will learn from different nonprofits and government agencies about various topics including community partnerships, safety and leadership skill building.

She says there will also be interactive sessions where those attending will learn one another.

"Whether it’s the different assets or ideals in a neighborhood, different project or program ideas, or learning from other groups about solutions they have found for challenges and issues their neighborhood has been having. We’ve designed this conference so it’s more interactive with the participants, because the people on the ground are community members who have been experiencing community organizing and advocacy work and so are the most educated about how to solve problems that we face all over the city.”

The IN the Neighborhood Conference takes place from 8:30 to 5:00 on Saturday, October 1st.

Smith says information on registrations is available at InTheNeighborhood.org.
