Nelson: American Jobs Act 'just the beginning'

By Katie Schubert

Omaha, NE – Nebraska's senior U.S. Senator says renewal of the FAA and highway bills by Congress will boost jobs.

Senator Ben Nelson spoke Saturday at Startup Weekend Omaha, an event for aspiring entrepreneurs. Nelson's speech follows the introduction of the so-called American Jobs Act by President Obama.

Nelson estimates 80 percent of business in Nebraska are small businesses. "In smaller communities, five jobs in a business can be a major employer in that community, and it keeps money in a community as well. And there are many kinds of micro-enterprise, it might be making something, it might be selling something, it might be marketing."

Nelson says the approval of three trade agreements would also create more jobs in Nebraska.

Reports say President Obama will introduce a plan this week to cut two trillion dollars from the federal deficit.
