Nelson: full disclosure of site selection criteria needed

By Katie Knapp

Omaha, NE – Senator Ben Nelson says he wants full disclosure of the Air Force's criteria for choosing which Bases house command centers.

Senator Nelson is critical of the Air Force's decision to award the Global Strike Command to Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana. An assessment of six bases considered for that Command ranked Bellevue's Offutt Air Force Base as the top choice. Senator Nelson says it's unfair that Offutt finished first but wasn't awarded the Global Strike Command. He says the Air Force used other criteria besides the six in the assessment survey to rank Bases.

Offutt is in the running for the Air Force's Cyber Command. Nelson says he wants the Air Force to disclose all the criteria it'll use to determine whether Offutt receives that Command. A decision is expected within the next 60 days.
