New contract with Omaha firefighters approved

A new contract with Omaha firefighters is in effect as of May 27th.

The Omaha City Council on Tuesday approved the four-year contract. It makes changes to the “four on a truck” mandate when unexpected absences happen. Instead, the fire department can run two three-man rigs to avoid overtime.

The contract contains a wage freeze this year. Firefighters get a two-percent raise next year, and three-percent raises in 2017 and 2018. The fire union will also assume control of the health care plan management.

A four-year contract with the Fire Management Group was also approved Tuesday.
