A Sarpy County school district has a new name.
South Sarpy District 46 is now Springfield Platteview Community Schools. The name change followed public meetings and a board vote.
Brett Richards, incoming superintendent of Springfield Platteview Community Schools, says the new name was chosen in part because of the district’s role in the Learning Community.
Richards says it was also important that the name incorporate both towns. District 46 also considered changing the name to Springfield Community Schools, but Richards says many residents in the District outside of Springfield identify themselves with Platteview.
District 46’s high school is in Platteview. There’s also Platteview Central Junior High School, Springfield Elementary, and Westmont Elementary.
Springfield Platteview officials are working on a new logo and slogan for the school district. The schools’ respective mascots will remain the same.
