A new report addresses the economics of sustainability.

By Cheril Lee

Omaha, NE – Environment Omaha is out with a report on the economics of sustainability.

Dr. John Bartle and MPA Gerard Wellman of the UNO School of Public Administration were commissioned to write the report. It focuses on five main areas: resource conservation, natural environment, urban form and transportation community health and building construction. Dr. Bartle says the five areas overlap in important ways. Each one has a direct affect on the other.

Dr. Bartle says the report looks at general patterns rather than giving definitive answers. Would it be better to create more bike paths? Would it be better to have more green space in the metro? He says sometimes the answer to questions like these is "no" but sometimes it is "yes". Dr. Bartle says ultimately, there's room for improvement.
