New report shows unemployment remains steady, housing market growing

By Katie Knapp Schubert

Omaha, NE – Omaha's newest economic indicators show growth in the metro area housing market.

The Greater Omaha Economic Development Partnership compiles the monthly economic indicators. July's report reflects unemployment and housing conditions for June. According to the report, home sales grew in June in the metro for the seventh month in a row.

Researcher Scott Strain expects the upward trend in the housing market to continue, both locally and nationally. He says Omaha's economy continues to experience the ups and downs happening at the national level.

June's unemployment rate was 5.2%. That's nearly steady when compared to May's 5.1% rate.
