A new wellness program is now available at UNMC

By Cheril Lee

Omaha, NE – A new wellness program at UNMC called EngAge Wellness focuses on those over the age of 50 or eligible for Medicare.

Wellness Manager Jeannie Hannan says the program focuses on six dimensions of wellness, including social, physical, intellectual and vocational. She says the program offers baseline fitness tests, wellness coaching and group movement classes. Additionally, Hannan says the center offers educational classes in healthy eating and stress management. She says the program is not just about the health and wellness of the participants but also has an education component, "So, it's a win because the students will get hands-on experience with older adults. They also will be exposed to wellness, where most of their fields they are exposed to disease and illness. And we want to show them that even though people may have chronic conditions, they can still be well. And, in turn, it will offer us more services to provide to our participants."

The EngAge Wellness Program is housed in the Home Instead Center for Successful Aging, at 38th Avenue and Leavenworth Street. Details are available online at unmc.edu/homeinsteadcenter.
