Norfolk Southern will hold shareholders meeting in May

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Norfolk Southern shareholders will get a chance to vote in May on whether they want their railroad to hold merger talks with rival Canadian Pacific.

Norfolk Southern said Monday that it will hold its annual meeting on May 12 in Williamsburg, Virginia.

Norfolk Southern's board said in the meeting notice that it continues to believe that the railroad will fare better with its current management team than in a merger with Canadian Pacific.

Norfolk Southern has rejected Canadian Pacific's roughly $30 billion takeover proposals, but CP has continued to pursue a deal.

Federal regulators have been asked to review the proposed structure of the railroad deal.
