North Omaha coalition focuses on voter registration and education

By Katie Knapp

Omaha, NE – The North Omaha Voter Participation Project is kicking off registration and voter education events ahead of the 2009 municipal election.

Omaha's Primary Election is April seventh. The Voter Participation Project plans to hold voter registration drives at North Omaha churches, restaurants, and community events. A project-sponsored Mayoral Forum is planned for April 14th at the Omaha Public Schools TAC building.

Preston Love Jr. of the North Omaha Voter Participation Project says members will also continue to offer voters rides to the polls. He says that'll begin March 23rd in Omaha the first day of early voting for the April primary. Omahans wanting to vote in the primary must be registered by March 21st.

The North Omaha Voter Participation Project is a non-partisan coalition whose core members are the Urban League of Nebraska, NANOSO, Empowerment Network, United Urban Voters League, and NAACP.
