Northwest High School, UNO students mark 9/11 anniversary with anti-bias event

A group of Northwest High School and UNO students will mark the anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks with an event about understanding differences.

This is the third year of the No Place for Hate campaign at Northwest High School. Student Council members are joining with UNO Political Science students for an anti-bias dialogue and event Thursday morning at the Typecast/Recast art exhibit in downtown Omaha.

John Nguyen is Northwest’s Student Council sponsor. He says the goal is to facilitate a discussion on resolving conflicts.

"We believe that if kids are more knowledgeable and able to deal with conflicts, things like conflicts that arise from differences won't get to the point where people are killing or dying because of it."

Nguyen says the No Place for Hate campaign has made a significant difference in the three years it’s been used at Northwest. He says this year, they want to do more community outreach.

Northwest and UNO Political Science students are working together on a “Sustainable Dialogue” campaign and an event in November.
