NPR's Scott Simon to Speak at Creighton
Peabody-Award-winning journalist and host of NPR’s Weekend Edition Saturday, Scott Simon, will be the keynote speaker for Creighton University's Ross Horning Lecture on April 15.
An established author and lifelong sports fan, Simon deftly traces the trials and triumphs of the man who changed the face of a sport in his 2007 book, Jackie Robinson and the Integration of Baseball. His topic for the Ross Horning lecture is “How Jackie Robinson Transformed America.” It is particularly timely. Jackie Robinson Day is celebrated in Major League Baseball every April 15, with this year marking the 66th anniversary of Robinson's Major League Debut.
The lecture takes place at 7:30 p.m. in the Harper Center Hixson Lied Auditorium. It is free and open to the public. To reserve a seat for this free event, you may register at cuhistory.eventbrite.com.
Omaha Public Radio's Michael Lyon talked with Creighton Department of History Chair, Tracey Leavelle, about the lecture.
