The Nuclear Regulatory Commission and OPPD have a public meeting scheduled Friday in Omaha about Fort Calhoun Station.
A news release from the NRC says the meeting is to update the public on inspections at the nuclear plant, and its progress toward restart. In February, additional items were added to a checklist that OPPD must complete before Fort Calhoun Station can restart.
Fort Calhoun Station shut down in April of 2011 for re-fueling. Missouri River flooding and a series of safety issues have kept the plant offline since then. Late last year, Chicago-based Exelon Nuclear Partners assumed day-to-day operations at Fort Calhoun Station. OPPD still holds the plant’s license.
The meeting begins at 1 PM at the Comfort Inn and Suites, at 70th and Grover Streets in Omaha.
