Occupy Oakland Protest Broken Up By Police

"Oakland police arrested dozens of people at a plaza outside City Hall and at a second, smaller camp nearby early this morning, two weeks after the protesters launched efforts as part of the nationwide Occupy Wall Street movement against corporate greed and economic inequality," The San Francisco Chronicle reports.

The Oakland Tribune says that "before dawn Tuesday, at least 200 police, many in riot gear, tore down the Occupy Oakland encampment in front of City Hall and arrested dozens of people. A smaller camp near Lake Merritt was also dismantled. Early reports from police say the raids went smoothly, with all protesters cleared out of the downtown Frank H. Ogawa Plaza in less than 30 minutes."

Reporter Rachel Myrow tells our Newcast desk that Occupy Oakland activists are "promising to reconvene later today at city press conferences and at the Oakland library."
