Omaha celebrates Earth Day

Omaha’s annual celebration of Earth Day is this Saturday.

The 24th annual Earth Day Omaha takes place at Elmwood Park. Eric Williams, chairman of the Earth Day Omaha board, says a new event this year is a Farmers’ Market. Another new feature is a solar-powered charging station for electronic devices.

Williams says Omahans can focus on Earth Day every day by taking alternative transportation, and being mindful of energy and water use.

“We have speakers from ModeShift Omaha who are talking about additional ways to facilitate bicycling and pedestrian activities, as well as using transit and carpooling, and modifying behavior so that they have the most effective transportation system for everyone. Energy is always a popular topic, so there are groups who are presenting information about clean energy production, or about energy efficiency.”

Earth Day Omaha runs from 11am to 6pm Saturday. More information is available at www.earthdayomaha.com.
