Omaha, NE – Monday, October 24th is Food Day. The Center for Science in the Public Interest modeled Food Day after Earth Day, but with the emphasis on encouraging Americans to eat healthier food.
Maureen Thomsen is a Marketing Coordinator for Vic Gutman. She says the City of Omaha will celebrate by extending its Aksarben Village Farmer's Market. The Farmer's Market takes place this Sunday from 9:00 until 1:00. Thomsen says the Farmer's Market is partnering with several food and farming organizations this weekend
"We were lucky enough to partner with Gretchen Swanson Center for Nutrition. They're going to be on site offering all sorts of children's activities. No more empty pots will be encouraging people to join the Eat Real challenge. They will have a pledging station."
Aksarben Cinema will show two related films that day including Home Fields: Digging into Local Foods and Good Food, which touches on the food movement in Pacific Northwest.
