Omaha City Council approves building redevelopment financing

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — The Omaha City Council has approved $275,000 in tax-increment financing to help rehabilitate three buildings that serve as a southern entryway into downtown Omaha.

The Omaha World-Herald reports that the council approved the financing Tuesday. The funds will help pay for several project costs, including acquisition, construction and demolition. The project is estimated to cost about $1.8 million.

Plans call for one building to be turned into a retail and restaurant spot, and another building to be developed into a café. The third building is expected to house a brewery.

Councilman Garry Gernandt said he and others hope the three-building development will help spur revitalization in the area known as Little Bohemia.

The area currently has many vacant and dilapidated structures.
