Omaha, Council Bluffs work together to attract Google project

By Cheril Lee

Omaha, NE – Omaha and Council Bluffs are partnering up, hoping to entice Google to bring its ultra high speed Internet project to the Metro area.

Catherine Leo, Deputy Communications Director for Omaha Mayor Jim Suttle, says the partnership began when Google issued a request for information from local governments and communities across the country. She says Omaha Mayor Suttle and Council Bluffs Mayor Tom Hanafan decided a regional approach incorporating the goals of two cities and two states together would set their application from others.

Leo says Google will announce the results of the competition later this year and as they select a city to be a pilot site for their fiber project. Google's hope is that whichever city is chosen for the super high speed internet, residents of that city will come up with some new applications and new ways to use the product.
