Omaha Farmer's Market begins Saturday

By Cheril Lee

Omaha, NE – The 17th annual Omaha Farmer's Market opens this Saturday.

Project Manager Heidi Walz says the market runs from 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Old Market, between 10th and 11th Streets along Jackson. Walz says for the first time this year the Omaha Farmer's Market is closing 11th Street between Jackson and Howard.

"That has allowed us a few additional vendor spaces so you'll see some new faces down there. Our main goal was to open up aisle ways and make it easier for our customers," Walz says. "So now instead of a crowded area on the 11th street sidewalk, those vendors will be turning around and selling toward the street. We've added vendors on the other side of the street and truly the center of 11th street, closed off from traffic, will become a main thoroughfare for market shoppers."

Walz says another change this year is the addition of a Sunday Farmer's Market at Aksarben Village at 67th and Center Streets. The Sunday market will run from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., beginning Memorial Day weekend.
