Omaha Farmer's Markets open this weekend

Omaha residents will have the opportunity to purchase produce, flowers, meats and cheeses from local vendors at theOmaha Farmer’s Markets starting this weekend.

Project Manager Kylie Feilmeier says the Omaha Farmer’s Markets resume Saturday and Sunday.  Feilmeier says right now visitors will see spinach, arugula, radishes and herb plants.

She says the selection at the markets varies from month to month and sometimes week to week.  Both markets accept EBT cards or food stamps.

"For the first two months, at both the Saturday and Sunday market, we have a program that’s called the $5 match program.  So if someone purchases say $10 in SNAP tokens, we will be able to give them $15 in tokens.  And same if they get $20 in tokens, we will match them and give them $25 in tokens."

SNAP stands for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. Feilmeier says new this year, the Sunday market at Aksarben Village will have eight more vendors in attendance.

The downtown Omaha Farmer’s Market starts Saturday and runs from 8-12:30.  The market at Aksarben Village resumes on Sunday from 9-1:00.
