Omaha to hold two public forums on police union contract

By Katie Knapp Schubert

Omaha, NE – The city of Omaha plans to hold two public forums next week on the tentative police union contract.

The forums are Tuesday at the Omaha Public Schools' Teacher Administration Center, and Wednesday at Westside High School. Both begin at 6:30 PM.

Omaha city councilmen received the police union contract at Tuesday's meeting. Under the contract, new and future Omaha Police officers' pensions will be calculated using base pay. The tentative agreement calls for officers to contribute an additional $1,300 a year each to the pension fund.

The city's pension system is currently underfunded by more than $550 million.
