Omaha making changes to trash, recycling collection days

Changes are coming to Omaha’s trash and recycling collection schedule.

The changes to the pickup schedule are effective January 5th. The city will be divided in to five sections from east to west, with collections picked up first on Mondays in the southernmost parts of Omaha. It’ll end on Fridays in northern areas.

A news release from Mayor Jean Stothert’s office says 73 percent of Omaha households will be affected by the change to city collection services. Only the pickup routes and schedule are changing.

The city plans to introduce the new collection schedule eight weeks early. A website has also been set up with additional information. It’s newday.wasteline.org.

It’s the first change to Omaha’s trash and recycling collection services in 30 years. The new plan was developed in conjunction with contractor Deffenbaugh Industries.
