Omaha mayor, Stadium Committee meet with the NCAA

By Katie Knapp

Omaha, NE – No details are available about Tuesday's meeting between the City of Omaha and the NCAA. Mayor Mike Fahey and the Stadium Oversight Committee met with NCAA officials in Indianapolis. The meeting comes one week after the Stadium Oversight Committee presented its recommendation to build a new ballpark on Qwest Center parking lots C and E.

NCAA Executive Vice President Tom Jernstedt issued a statement saying The NCAA would like to take this opportunity to thank the College World Series Stadium Selection Oversight Committee for providing us with an update on the City of Omaha's plans as it relates to future options for the College World Series in Omaha. We appreciate the hard work of many in the local government and community to look at all options available to enhance the College World Series in the years to come. It is our desire and hope that with clear and honest communication, we will be able to assist them in advancing a single, comprehensive proposal that will enhance the experience of all who participate and attend the College World Series, and that the proposal has broad-based support in the Omaha community and has the financing in place to be successful. We understand a lot of work needs to be done by the Committee and we are looking forward to receiving more information regarding their preferred proposal in the near future.
