Omaha is among the best cities in the U.S. for jobs, according to Forbes Magazine.

Forbes released its list last month of best cities for jobs, with Omaha ranked seventh. Last year, Omaha was named as a top city for startup businesses.

Jeff Slobotski is co-founder of Omaha-based Silicon Prairie News, which highlights the metro area’s small business and entrepreneurial community. He says Omaha is a supportive city for aspiring business owners. “If you have a good idea, it’s not hard to find investment capital. There is talent here, there are other folks you can bounce ideas around with.”

Slobotski says the entrepreneurship community needs more connection between aspiring entrepreneurs and successful startups. “What we need to do is try to increase the pool of available mentors and folks that can help guide and train these additional startups along that path as we see more businesses and more ideas come to fruition.”

Silicon Prairie News hosted one such event in February, called the Startup Job Crawl. They also host a three-day national entrepreneurship conference called Big Omaha.

The Omaha metro area unemployment rate was 4.7 percent in December.
