Omaha, NE – The city of Omaha needs volunteers for sandbagging efforts.

One city sandbagging effort began Sunday at Levi Carter Park. Another begins June 27th at the Interstate 3 parking lot. That's located between 18th and 19th streets at Cass and Chicago Streets.

Parks Director Melinda Pearson says volunteers age 19 and older are needed to work one of three shifts.

More information and a link to sign up is available at www.cityofomaha.org/parks. Pearson says they hope to have 250,000 sandbags available to protect public property. One of Omaha's fire stations has already been sandbagged.

The Missouri River is at 32.8 feet at Omaha as of Tuesday morning.
