Omaha nonprofit gets more than $1.4M to help area's homeless

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — An Omaha nonprofit has been awarded more than $1.4 million by the federal government to provide housing for the homeless in certain Nebraska counties.

The Omaha World-Herald reported Wednesday that the Metro Area Continuum of Care for the Homeless received the grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to provide supportive housing for the homeless in Pottawattamie, Douglas and Sarpy counties.

Funding will go toward rental assistance, as well as the local homeless management information system.

The organization's assistant director, Lisa Vukov, says that mental health and substance abuse treatment and other support services will also receive aid.
