Omaha one of the Top 10 livable cities for seniors

A new study released by SeniorAdvice.com ranks Omaha in the top 10 most livable cities in America for seniors.

Ryan Patterson, CEO of SeniorAdvice.com, says the ranking is based on their proprietary data-driven algorithm called SeniorScore.

Patterson says criteria used in calculating the score included more than 100 variables across four different categories.

He says the four categories were health and safety, recreation and leisure, finances and general quality of life.

Patterson explains health and safety is based on access to healthcare for seniors while recreation and leisure is based on amenities that are important to seniors...

"Finances are going to include things that are going to be important to people who live on a retirement budget.  And then general quality of life is a broader category but we did try to focus in on those things that we know from our surveys are important to seniors like weather, etc.”

Omaha scored well across all four categories but especially in healthcare quality and access, with 16 area hospitals and almost 100 senior care facilities.

Patterson says Omaha citizens also have a longer life expectancy compared to other larger American cities.
