Omaha Parks department launches new program for kids

By Katie Knapp Schubert

Omaha, NE – Omaha's summer recreation program for kids is now part of a larger, year-round schedule of activities and sports.

Omaha's Parks and Recreation Department announced the new Rec's Kids Clubhouse program Thursday. Parks Director Melinda Pearson says it brings together existing summer programs and offerings at the city's 13 community centers. "That gives us an efficiency in staffing as well as brings the kids inside for inclement weather and safety issues that we often didn't have when we had our Sun Dawgs out in the park."

Kids will be able to participate in arts, crafts, and games both indoors and outdoors. Pearson says each community center will have a free swim on Fridays for children and offer opportunities for kids to go ice skating.
