Omaha Planning Department Presents 10th Annual Community Excellence Awards

The City of Omaha Planning Department’s Housing and Community Development Division celebrated Community Development Week by presenting the 10th annual Community Excellence Awards.

This year’s winners were the South Omaha Neighborhood Alliance, Habitat for Humanity, Holy Name Housing Corporation, Omaha Economic Development Corporation and Gesu Housing, Incorporated.

Norita Matt, City Planner, says the awards are given out once a year for individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to the quality of life and overall health of Omaha’s older neighborhoods.

"It’s a good way to give kudos for all those things we do in the city to develop those neighborhoods that have issues with deteriorating homes, empty lots and abandoned properties.  So we are trying hard in this area to really focus on some of the great things a lot of these organizations do.”

National Community Development Week is a celebration of the role played by the Community Development Block Grant Program to provide safe, decent and sanitary housing.
