Omaha police union voting on new contract

By Katie Knapp Schubert

Omaha, NE – Voting is underway on Omaha's contract with the Police Officers Association.

Police Union President Officer Aaron Hanson says voting began just after midnight Tuesday. It'll end at 6 PM Thursday.

The Omaha City Council approved the police contract last week on a four-to-three vote. It requires each officer to contribute $1,300 a year to the city's pension system. The agreement uses base pay as the calculation of pensions for new and future police officers.

It also reduces the city's contribution to the pension system during the first two years of the contract.
