Omaha Postmaster EvaJon Sperling dies

Omaha, NE – Omaha Postmaster EvaJon Sperling has died at the age of 70.

A news release from the Omaha office says Sperling died unexpectedly Thursday. She was named Postmaster of Omaha in 1995. Her postal career began in 1972 in Flint, Michigan. She also worked for the Postal Service in Denver and in Wausau, Wisconsin.

Sperling graduated from the University of Nebraska-Omaha in 2001. Before joining the Postal Service, she served in the Marine Corps for three years, where she achieved the rank of Lieutenant.

Omaha Post Office spokesman Roger Humphries says he'll remember Sperling as a friend and a mentor.
