Omaha Public LIbrary's Florence Branch Reopens on Wednesday

By Cheril Lee

Omaha, NE – On September 1st, the Omaha Public Library's Florence Branch closed for renovations.

The library reopens on Wednesday. Gary Wasdin is the Executive Director of the Omaha Public Library. He says the celebration will be extra special for the patrons of the Florence Branch who almost lost their branch last year to city budget cuts. Wasdin says the community rallied to show their support and raised the money needed to keep it open for 2010. He says the renovation is a pretty tremendous overhaul of a well-used library. Wasdin says the Florence branch will feature 1,500 square feet of additional space. Highlights include an enclosed computer lab, a redesigned service desk area and a new teen space. He says this is a good opportunity for people to see their tax dollars reinvested in their communities.

Wednesday's events include tours and live music from 10:00 to Noon and an open house with refreshments from 3:00 to 6:00. The Florence Branch is located at 2920 Bondesson Street.
