Omaha Reads and Omaha Kids Read Titles Announced

By Cheril Lee

Omaha, NE – The Omaha Public Library has selected the titles for this year's Omaha Reads and Omaha Kids Read programs.

Executive Director Gary Wasdin says these types of programs offer opportunities to promote literacy and encourage conversations in the community. Omaha Reads is part of the One Book, One City initiative, where a book is selected for an entire community to read at the same time. Because it has been a few years since the Omaha Public Library has offered the One Book, One City initiative, Wasdin says they decided to let Omahans decide which titles they wanted to read. A public vote was taken via the library's web site back in November. For the adult title, Omaha selected Doris Kearns Goodwin's autobiography about baseball, "Wait Till Next Year." He says the kids' title is "The Secret Garden" by Frances Hodgson Burnett.

Special programs and book discussions will take place throughout the Omaha Reads and Omaha Kids Read programs. Details are available online at omahalibrary.org.
